Teen Mom star Maci Bookout is finally writing her book, if The Twitter be true, since she tweeted over the weekend, "Just had a serious writing session… Damn. i cant wait for my book to be out."
Yay! The reality star, who got pregnant at 16 and became one of the very first 16 & Pregnant girls after her mom saw a Craigslist ad for a casting call, is one of my favorites. And not just because she’s a redhead.
Maci wasn’t the kid you’d expect to get pregnant in high school -- which is why she’s made it her goal to educate other girls about teen pregnancy prevention. She’s said that if she had known she could just go to a health center and get birth control, she would have. She’s trying to the scary out of needing birth control as a teen.
Maybe she’ll write about regrets? About the good things that can come out of bad decisions? Because she obviously adores her son Bentley, and I’m sure she doesn’t wish him off the face of the planet. But dang if being a very young mom isn’t tough stuff.
I would really love to see her get into some of the heartache and struggles she faced with teen pregnancy. We’ve recently learned that teen pregnancy is down more than it’s been in decades, and some have said it’s partly due to the real struggles portrayed on MTV’s 16 & Pregnant.
It’s tough. It shows what these girls give up not just when they get pregnant, but when the baby comes and things get really real. Babies are not accessories, and sex should not be treated lightly in terms of protecting yourself.
There’s nothing like getting into someone else’s head and heart to help you make better decisions for yourself. Good for Maci for putting herself out there and not being afraid to speak out about her struggles.
